You don’t look a day over 170

Happy 195th birthday to my second favorite Brontë sister who, despite not living past the age of 30, succeeded in producing a great literary classic. And in serving as a model for one of the archetypes of literary spinsters–reclusive, brilliantly talented, and happy to wander the moors beyond her home with her sisters as her sole source of companionship. Not much is known about Emily Brontë, and her works are left to speak eloquently on her behalf. Beyond that, she was known to be a lover of nature and animals, passionate, strong willed, and terribly shy. I’m proud to cite her as the namesake for the protagonist of my novel, and more generally as a literary influence. If you’ve not yet become acquainted with the Brontë sisters, remedy this at once. For my part, I’ll be hunting down a cake and candles in celebration of the talented, mysterious, and oh-so-inspiring Emily Brontë.
